City of Edmonton's Finalist Phase Proposal Launch

In order to celebrate all the hard work over the past year, Mayor Iveson led a Media Event to launch our Finalist Video and Submission on March 5, 2019 at 12:00 pm. This event highlighted the City of Edmonton’s Final Proposal Report and Video, featuring the Smart Cities Challenge Team, Project Partners and Gallery Walk.

Lunch MEAET

Date: February 23, 2019

Time: 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Location: Floor 3, Edmonton Tower (10111 - 104 Avenue)

MEAET is a microfunding forum hosted by Edmonton’s NextGen IGNITE Working Group where Edmontonians get together for a delicious meal and listen to pitches made by independent projects in our City. At the end of the event, a vote is taken and the winning project is awarded with the funds raised from ticket sales. The Smart Cities Challenge team was at this event to talk to attendees about our proposal.

Oil Kings vs. Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Game

Edmonton’s Smart Cities Challenge team attended the Oil Kings vs. Lethbridge Hurricanes game to chat with attendees about our proposal. We were talking to attendees on the main concourse at Rogers Place.

Grow with Google

Date: September 26, 2018

The City of Edmonton has partnered with Google to offer Grow with Google. This initiative helps small businesses and entrepreneurs access the training and tools to grow their skills, careers and businesses. Edmonton’s Smart Cities Challenge team engaged with attendees at the event to talk about our work.

Edmonton Rock Music Festival

Date: August 17-18, 2018

Time: 4:00 pm - 12:00 am

Location: Hawrelak Park

The festival celebrates some of the finest Canadian and American rock superstars. It is produced by The Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton. The City of Edmonton chatted to concert goers and gathered their feedback about Edmonton’s Smart Cities Challenge!

Edmonton Heritage Festival

Location: Hawrelak Park

The Edmonton Heritage Festival is a three-day event to sample delicious food, see creative performances and celebrate Canada’s multiculturalism. The City of Edmonton hosted a booth about Edmonton’s Smart Cities Challenge!

Edmonton's Smart Cities Challenge HealthHack

Date: March 3, 2018 - April 16, 2018

Location: City Hall

The City of Edmonton launched its first ever HealthHack Competition! We invited residents to submit proposals to make Edmonton a Healthy City. The top five finalists worked to create a prototype and a chance to win up to $5,000 for the top prize.

  • 1st Place – $5,000: Wheelchair Accessibility Tracker (Martin Ferguson-Pell)
  • 2nd Place – $2,500: Cannabis Ecosystem (Joe Dang and Reed Sutton)
  • 3rd Place – $1,000: Fitness App for Non-Athletes (Dr. PJ Rawlek, K. DeZutter, N. Twal, C. Nicole, E. Barbaric and B. Poetz)
  • Finalist: Buddy Benches (Troy Pavlek)
  • Finalist: Urban Design/Mental Health App (Fahim Hassan, Rokib S A, Mohib Khan and Hamman Samuel)
